connecting (housekeeping)

There’s a kind gentleman here right now setting me up with one of his spare TiVos, along with a small pile of software so that I can pretend to be the TiVo guide service, and use the zap2it channel data as my back-end. It’s been an adventure, but it’ll be all worth it

Especially tomorrow, when I have an ultimate game that will bump into Game 5. Sweet, sweet buffer.

<envy>Mmmmm. TiVo.</envy> Tell me, good sir, does this kind gentlemen have any more spare TiVi? I’ve had a look at the Rogers Digital Cable PVR thingie, and despite it looking like a TiVo, the user experience is definitely un-TiVo like.

And in other news — maybe we can get the game on radio?

E-bay is still a good place to get series 1 tivii. I’ve got an SVR 2000 with 2x120GB drives in it, and it do indeed rock.

I liked it much better when I was in the States (none of the pain, all of the goodness), and I do think I will be switching back to cable, which makes the Tivo infinitely more usable. Oh… and the TurboNet card makes it sooo much nicer than using a ppp connection over serial.

Let me know how it works out, Mike. I’ve noticed you have to thrash the slice generation software once in a while, but for the most part it works well (and it’s a hell of a lot better than it was a year or so ago).
